Bedford & County Golf Club (then known as Mid-Beds Golf Club at Clapham) between four of the most illustrious golfers of their time. The four golfers were George Duncan (then current holder of the 1920 Open Championship) partnering James Braid (5 times Open Champion, 1901,1905,1906,1908 and 1910) verses J.H.Taylor (also 5 times Open Champion, 1894,1895,1900,1909 and 1913) partnering Abe Mitchell (3 times Matchplay Champion) The first photo shows Abe Mitchell teeing of from the par 3 - 127 yard - 9th hole, which is the same location as the present 9th hole. George Duncan is the player to the left of Mitchell wearing a bow tie. James Braid is the player to the right of the tee box with moustache. The second photo shows Abe Mitchell teeing off from the par 5 - 327 yard - 11th hole, which was from the old tee to the left of the present winter green on the 10th hole to an area that is currently occupied by the 16th tee. J.H.Taylor is the player to the left of Mitchell with moustache. James Braid is the player next to the tee box walking towards Mitchell. The third photo shows them putting out on the 18th green, with the original 6 pillared clubhouse. Also shown is Albert Loak's cottage (Head Greenkeeper) in the background with the cycle sheds. The fourth photo shows the after match photo shoot in front of the clubhouse   |
