on the opening of the newly built clubhouse and re-designed course |
|
The second nine holes were not officially opened until 26th April 1923. It was at this stage that bunkers were first introduced onto the course and the length was extended to 6011 yards with a bogey of 77. The first photo shows the newly built clubhouse, complete with picket fence. The second photo shows the 2nd hole (now the 3rd hole) - notice the 'Blasted Ash' tree behind the present 4th tee is prominent. The third photo was taken from behind the 10th green, looking back down the 10th fairway - notice the present 11th was still just a field. The fourth photo shows the old 13th Green and 14th Tee, which were located in Tinsleys field alonside the present 17th hole. The fifth photo shows the 18th hole - from the original tee alongside the present right hand hedge and in front of the old pond. This was a 281 yard par 4 hole at this point in time, and was extended to 485 yard par 5 by April 1923. The sixth photo shows the new clubhouse from the right hand side, and the 18th green; notice the interesting cars in the car park. The seventh photo shows the inside of the clubhouse in what was the Members room and bar area, looking towards the fireplace the other side of which was the mens locker room. The first seven photos were taken in 1922, probably in the autumn. The eighth photo was taken in the summer of 1923, after the completion of the back 9 holes, and shows the 18th green with one of the newly introduced bunkers and a new fireplace built in the ladies lounge area.   |
